About Us

My name is Jessica Garwood.  I married my husband Devin Garwood in February 2004.  We had our first child, Brody in October 2005.  We knew we wanted to have more children so we started trying right away.  Unfortunately I was unable to get pregnant.  We tried different fertility pills and different doses but nothing was working.  We decided to take a little break from it to see if we could get pregnant on our own.  Unfortunately we never could.  I was told I had PCOS which makes it hard to get pregnant.  We finally decided to go to a specialist in 2011.  He gave us a round of fertility pills but again it did not work.  So the next month he gave me fertility pills and the fertility shot.  We were both excited when the pregnancy test came back positive.  We had our first ultrasound to see if i was for sure pregnant.  Well, not only was there one baby, but there was two!  He said that there was a third sac but it did not make it.  We were kinda relieved because two babies would be plenty.

Pregnancy:

I had a normal pregnancy besides ALL the morning sickness ALL the time. I had to make sure i had lots of hard candy around. I was able to work at the daycare i was at until January 2012. My Dr. was not too crazy about me working.  I went to the dr more and had more sonograms because i was having twins.  Our due date was set for April 30, 2012.  Because i was having twins we decided to have a c-section since it would be safer for the babies.  On Monday, April 2 I started having painful contractions.  I went to the hospital by myself because i figured it was false labor (happened with first child)  The put me on the monitors and took blood work.  They said that the contractions were not showing up on the monitor but i was in EXTREMELY bad pain!  They said i was dehydrated and started an IV.  They also gave me medicine to help stop the labor.  They ended up keeping me that night so my parents and my husband came to the hospital.  The medicine seemed to make the contractions worse.  I was frustrated because they kept saying that the contractions were not showing up on the monitor.  I had several nurses check me and say i was at a 3/4.  The dr. came in the next day and checked me and i was at a 5.  They decided to go ahead with the c-section even though the babies were only at 36 weeks.  I had Brayden at 12:09 and Bryson at 12:10 that afternoon on April 3. Brayden weighed 4 pounds 15 oz and Bryson weighed 6 pounds 6 oz.

The Twins:

We noticed that Brayden was not opening his left eye. i felt over it and didnt feel like anything was there.  We had them on a Tuesday and we kept asking the nurse about his eye but no one would tell us anything.  Finally their Dr. came in on Thursday and told us his left eye stopped developing.  He said it was nothing that we did.  After the Dr. left i started crying.  It was hard to take in after having twins and now one has some problems.  He came back later that night and told us he had talked to a specialist and we would make an appointment with him when we left the hospital.  Everything was fine with Bryson.

Brayden

After we left the hospital we made an appointment with the specialist in Wichita. He told us it was just "bad luck" that his left eye stopped developing.  He told us it was nothing that we did.  He looked at his right eye and said everything looked good.  He said we would need to make an appointment at 6 months to have a mold made so he could get was is called a conformer for his eye. This would stretch it out so it would be ready for a prosthetic eye.
